Masteron was once a widely popular anabolic and androgen synthetic steroid among bodybuilders. It was manufactured by a European Pharmaceutical company but the widespread abuse and the concern for toxicity led the company to discontinue is production nearly 2 decades ago.

The steroid is no longer available and even on the black market, its authenticity is questionable.  The Belgium Pharmaceutical Company, Sarva Syntex, stopped the manufacture of this drug at least 10 year ago.

Masteron can increase muscle mass and cause a positive nitrogen balance. The body mass is increased gradually over a period of 4-6 weeks.

Masteron does not undergo aromatization to estrogen and that is why it was preferred to many of the other anabolic steroids. It resembles testosterone in its actions. However, at high doses the drug is converted to some degree to estrogen and can lead to development of breast enlargement and water retention. The drug was never approved for clinical use in medicine because of the concern for side effects. In Europe the drug was tried out as a treatment for resistant anemias and individuals with HIV who had profound weight loss.

Bodybuilders

Masteron is used by bodybuilders to regain weight and maintain it. The androgenic properties can help increase mass but the effect is not as great as that seen with nandrolone or winstrol. The drug is most commonly used before a sports meet and stopped 2 weeks prior to the event. However, that was in the past. The sophisticated detection techniques available today can identify the drug even a month after use. Masteron has proven to a disappointment for the majority of bodybuilders. The weight gain is gradual and not significant. While some bodybuilders claim that is has kick arse muscle ripping effects, the majority of athletes who have used this drug in the past have complained that the effect was minimal. In part the reason for the failure of the drug may be due to the efficacy of the formulations out on the market. Because the drug is no longer legally manufactured, most of Masteron is made in home made laboratories in Asia and Europe. Besides the poor quality, there have been many instances of fake or counterfeit products.

Dosage

There is no oral formulation of the drug. The dose of Masteron is 100 mg injected every other day, but there are others who recommend using the drug every day. The injections are typically administered in the buttocks and can be painful if done every day. To prevent abscess formation, it is recommended that one change the site of injection every week. There are other bodybuilders who recommend increasing the dose of Masteron to 200-500mg/week.  Since the drug has never been formally used in medicine, any recommended dose is purely empirical and based on guess work.

The other most common site of injection is the outer aspect of the thigh. Even though the drug is rapidly absorbed it has a short half life- mainly due to breakdown in the liver. Bodybuilders generally take Masteron with other anabolic steroids like Winstrol or Anavar. Some even add Clomid to the regimen during the wash out phase of the drug. Most experts recommend that the drug should not be taken for more than 3-4 weeks at a time. Since the drug is not broken down to an estrogen, there is no breast enlargement or water retention.

Side effects

The side effects of Masteron of are minimal and rare- assuming that it is the real thing. The majority of past users indicate that they did not observe any side effects-which is very unusual for an anabolic steroid. The most common side effects reported include:

• fatigue
• hair loss
• mental changes-depression, anxiety, anger, aggressiveness
• acne, oily skin
• generalized fatigue

The majority of these side effects reverse once the drug is stopped. Women wishing to use this drug should use caution. It can cause potent virilizing effects – some of which are irreversible even after the drug is stopped.

Cost

Masteron is not only a difficult drug to find but it is also very expensive. It is only available on black market. There are many sites on the internet which claim to have the real “Masteron”. Each vial of 100 mg is sold for $25-$30. However, analysis by many research laboratories have revealed that what is sold on the internet is fake or counterfeit product. In the USA, Masteron which is available has been smuggled in from Mexico, Thailand and the Far East. What the exact contents of the formulation remain in doubt- the only way to verify the product is to analyze it in the laboratory. In most cases, it is a counterfeit product with little more than some olive oil mixed with a few unknown powders.

Masteron is banned by all sports organizations and is regularly checked in the urine. Today, the advanced techniques can identify masteron in the urine for up to 3-4 weeks after the last dose.

Legal

Masteron is classified as a schedule 3 drug under the controlled substance act. This means possession of the drug is illegal.

After extensively researching many sites and calling on dealers/sellers to verify their masteron, it is doubtful that the real product exists. For anyone wishing to build their body, masteron is not one of them. Save your money and buy something which is more authentic.
