Tanning
Tanning Peptides includes compounds associated with skin pigmentation and melanin production. These peptides act on melanocortin receptors, particularly MC1R, which regulates melanin synthesis in skin cells. Their intended effects include increased skin pigmentation, a darker complexion and enhanced tanning response through stimulation of the body’s natural melanin production.
The category includes Melanotan I (Afamelanotide), a synthetic analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) that activates melanocortin receptors and promotes eumelanin production, the pigment responsible for brown and black skin tones. Melanotan II also stimulates melanocortin receptors and is associated with increased skin pigmentation, but has broader receptor activity that may additionally influence sexual arousal and appetite regulation. Both compounds are associated with enhanced pigmentation, although their receptor selectivity and biological effects differ.
